9 Humpbacks
3000 Dolphins
Probably that many birds too
Capt Dave, Devon and Austin
Naturalist Jim McClure & Tony Sardino
PID Marilyn Dannehower
By 10:35 we ran into our first of many mega pods of dolphins…then another and
by 11:30 our first of at least 9 Humpbacks…then it seemed like every 20 minutes
would be another mega pod and another 2 or 3 humpbacks…we had pec slaps, lunge
feeding and many breaches…dolphins were also very very active….Guests from
Germany, UK , Netherlands, Switzerland , China , NYC, Utah, LA and SB
One sad note…one of the humpbacks was a mom and calf and it was apparent the
calf was either dying or already dead and as the mom kept going down and
pushing it up to the surface (during this the HB also did 3 breaches which we
thought was maybe a way of mourning )…as soon as Capt Dave realiized what was
happening he moved on to find another HB as he didn’t want to upset the many
kids we had on borad…Tony and I did go around and let most of the adults know
what was going on….Dave said he didn’t notice anything bad so assumed it was
natural causes… cycle of life in nature
We are sooooo lucky to be able to do this :)
