2000+ Common dolphinSea lions Pelicans, Cormorants, Western gulls0 whalesOut of
the harbor, we headed straight for Anacapa. Before Gina, a few Commin dolphin
found us, then on to Anacapa and the arch. Just around Anacapa, we saw this
massive, long, black line, south, on the backside of Anacapa - looked like a
huge cauldron bubbling over. Common dolphin massed together feeding, jumping,
tail slaps, leaping, spinning. Various sizes in the mix, sea lions too. We
stayed in the middle of this for at least 30 minutes. The passengers couldn't
get enough, even the experienced locals were spellbound. We were so convinced a
humpback would come rising up in the middle, no luck. The Captain headed on
south, south east, in search of whales. No luck. On the way back we did see 3
dorsals on larger black bodies that might have been Bottlenose dolphin, we
weren't close enough. Passengers were local, Inland, LA, San Diego, San
Francisco. Great group with lots of questions. Started out overcast, but the
sun came out when we were south of Anacapa, felt great, then overcast again
going back. Thanks to Captain Robert, spotter Ryan and Chef Paul, for a great
long trip this afternoon. The ocean never disappoints,Linda Knowlton,
