I JUST MADE A TRAFFIC STOP ON THIS GUY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. LOL CIFN*1 Truck driver pleads guilty in fatal accident Post-Dispatch 07/09/2004 Truck driver pleads guilty in fatal accident On the eve of his trial in St. Louis County Circuit Court, the driver of a dump truck whose 23-ton load killed a man when the truck overturned pleaded guilty Friday of involuntary manslaughter. The drive, Darius Outen, 33, of St. Louis, will be sentenced Aug. 20. He had been scheduled to go on trial Monday. On Aug. 19, 2002, Outen ran a red light, made a sharp right turn and overturned the dump truck at Bayless Avenue and Union Road. The rock buried a 1995 Toyota Camry and its driver, Robert A. Kovats, 83, of south St. Louis County. As part of a plea agreement, Judge John Ross will consider a sentence for Outen of 120 days in prison and probation. The maximum sentence on the charge is four years in prison. MASCOUTAH Small plane lands in soybean field A small plane with engine trouble tried to land Friday at MidAmerica Airport in Mascoutah but touched down in a soybean field, about 1,500 feet short of the airport's runway, about 3:45 p.m., authorities reported. The pilot and a passenger were not injured. They were described by officials as an instructor pilot and a student, but their names were not released. Airport director Tim Cantwell said the Cessna 172 propeller-driven plane was owned and operated by the Scott Aero Club, which rents planes to military personnel and their families at Scott Air Force Base. The base and its own runway are next to MidAmerica. "It landed with its gear down and its wings up," Cantwell said. "The only thing better would be if it had landed on the runway." The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Sean A.
