Newton Fire Investigation Posted: May 7, 2004 Investigators sift through the rubble looking for what caused a fire that destroyed a Jasper County business and damaged two others. Firefighters from five departments responded to the fire at the Print Shop Two in downtown Newton yesterday. Today was a day of clean up as the search for a cause gets underway. Smoke fills the square in downtown Newton as firefighters battle the blaze at the Print Shop Two. That was the scene yesterday. Today investigators arrived to try to determine what caused the fire which totaled the building. The building owner Will Klier was on a business trip when he got the call that his building was on fire. He says he was in shock and he couldn't do much because he was eight hours away from Newton. Klier says the damage inside the building is unfixable. He says the floor inside the building has fell into the basement. Wade Fire Protection Chief Larry Dorn says firefighters from all over the area were called in to help out and it could have been worse without them. Dorn says right now they don't know how the fire started. The owner of the business says all that remains of what use to be his business are charred ashes. He says he doesn't know what he'll do now. No one was hurt in the fire. Both buildings attached to the building that burned received smoke and water damage. It could take some time before a cause is known. Sean A.
