Maynard family loses home to fire Saturday By Janell Bradley April 13, 2004 Firefighters in the central and southern part of Fayette County were called out on several occasions when an Oelwein business was destroyed by fire Friday, and a rural Maynard couple lost their home, Saturday. Fire destoryed the house where the Ted and Roxanne Henderson family were living on L. Ave., east of Maynard and about two miles south of Highway 150. The Hendersons and their son, Joe, were remodeling a farrowing house when they looked out of the building to see fire trucks in their yard. A passer-by called 911 about 3 p.m., after seeing the house ablaze, not realizing the Hendersons were elsewhere on the farm. Maynard, Oelwein and Fayette fire departments responded, and remained at the scene into the evening, but the older two-story farmhouse was a total loss. A shower to benefit the family has been planned at Evangelical Free Church, 225 20th Street in Oelwein, Monday, April 19, beginning at 7 p.m. A friend of the family said the Hendersons, who have a son, Joe, a sophomore at North Fayette High School, lost nearly all their belongings in the house fire. Firefighters were able to remove the washer and dryer from a porch at the back of the home which was the only part of the house intact the following day, Easter Sunday. Ted is employed at Rupp Aire in West Union and Roxanne, by Rainbowland Preschool and Daycare in Fayette. The family is staying in Oelwein with their pastor, Dan Driscoll and his wife, Susan, until housing can be arranged. ©Newspapers of Fayette County 2004 Sean A.
