firefighter fatalities:

Cause of Death: Fire Commissioner Davis was operating a 1997 GMC C-8500
town-owned fire truck headed to a grass fire. The apparatus, reportedly
traveling at an estimated 50 to 55 mph, swerved to avoid oncoming traffic
and left the roadway to the right, over-corrected, ran off the roadway to
the left, over-corrected a second time, causing the vehicle to roll over
due to weight shifting back and forth. The apparatus made three-quarters
of a flip and came to rest lying on its passenger side. Davis was
partially ejected and died at the scene from massive head trauma. Neither
Davis nor another firefighter riding in the apparatus and sent to the
hospital for observation were wearing seat belts.
