The U.S. Fire Administration has recevied notice of the following
firefighter fatality:
Name: John A. Brenckle
Rank: Fire Police Captain
Age: 57
Gender: Male
Status: Volunteer
Years of Service: 32
Date of Incident: 09/17/2004
Time of Incident: Not Available
Date of Death: 09/23/2004
Fire Department Name: Berkeley Hills Fire Company
Fire Department Address: 235 Siebert Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237
Fire Department Phone: 412-366-2910
Fire Department Chief: Curt Kelly
Cause of Death: Fire Police Captain Brenckle?s leg became infected through
an open wound after coming into contact with floodwaters while he was
working a two day flood event. Brenckle died several days later after
being admitted to the hospital.
