The U.S. Fire Administration has received notice of the following
firefighter fatality:
Name: Lawrence J. Yonkin
Rank: Chief
Age: 56

Status: Volunteer
Years of Service: 30+
Date of Incident: 11/15/2003
Time of Incident: 0530hrs
Date of Death: 11/15/2003
Fire Department Name: Forest View-Gang Mills Fire Department

Fire Department Chief: Assistant Chief Dan Dillon
Cause of Death: Chief Yonkin died of an apparent heart attack after
returning home from a civilian casualty house fire response.
Funeral Arrangements: Calling hours will be on Tuesday, November 18,
2003, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Carpenter?s
Funeral Home at 14 E. Pulteney Street, Corning, NY, 14830, (607)
936-9927.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19,
2003, at the Carpenter?s Funeral Home in Corning with a procession to
follow ending at the Gang Mills Fire Department. It has been
respectfully
requested that those departments joining the procession bring one piece
of
equipment to the service on Wednesday morning.
Memorial Fund Contact and Address: Memorial donations may be made, in
Chief Yonkin?s name, to the Forest View-Gang Mills Volunteer Fire
Department, 125 Forest Drive, Painted Post, NY 14870.
