East St. Louis woman struck by car dies

Anita Gibson, 39, of East St. Louis, died Sunday of injuries suffered July 27
when hit by a car not far from her home, police said.
Detective Desmond Williams said the driver had left the scene.
Williams said that Gibson was walking with a friend just after midnight July 27
in the 500 block of North 59th Street and was hit while trying to cross the
road. She died Sunday morning at St. Louis University Hospital.
Witnesses identified the car as a maroon 1989 Chevrolet Camaro and gave the
name of the driver, Williams said. No charges have been issued.
Williams found the car Wednesday in Belleville and got a warrant to search it
for evidence. It was towed to a police holding lot on North 20th Street in East
St. Louis.
