Fatal Fire Leads to 911 Questions Posted: September 6, 2004 Early Sunday morning fire erupted at the home of 68-year-old Wayne Temples of Oakland killing him and his dog. But now some are questioning the 911 response saying the operator wasn't familiar with the area. Oakland resident Donvan Stark was driving home when he saw the flames and stopped to try to help. He tried to get Temples out of the burning home, but says the smoke was too much. Temple's home caught fire around 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Donovan woke his mother Judy who lives near Temples house and she called Coles County 911, but she says the dispatcher wasn't sure where Oakland was located. News Watch attempted to contact the Coles County 911 Center, but they refused to speak to us by phone. We went to the center and dispatchers told us the tape of the 911 call had been reviewed. They say the caller didn't give an accurate description of where the fire was at. Judy Stark admits she didn't know Temple's address, but says she clearly defined where the fire was happening. Judy Stark says she doesn't believe her problem with the 911operator cost Temples his life, but says she plans on filing a complaint. Temple's dog was also killed in the fire. The cause is still under investigation. Sean A.
