Audubon Newswire Volume 1, Extra #2 December 8, 2003 In this issue: -- Members Meeting Summary Report ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------- Audubon Members Meeting Takes Place Saturday, December 6: Six New National Board Members Elected New York, NY, Monday, December 8, 2003 - The Annual National Audubon Members' Meeting took place this past Saturday, December 6, in Erlanger, Kentucky. This was the first Audubon meeting in which Carol Browner served as Board Chair. The agenda included three key items: member approval of several annual reports; election of new directors; and an open session to hear from members. The membership elected twelve directors to the Class of 2006, including six new directors - Lynn Dolnick, Lloyd Semple, Michael Stolper, Ione Werthman, John Whittle, and Steven T. Zimmerman; and six directors re-elected to serve another term - Leslie Dach, Jack Dempsey, Vivian Johnson, David Walsh, John L. Whitmire, and Alan Wilson. The meeting also approved the annual Treasurer's Report, Board of Directors Report, and the Audit Committee Report. The Treasurer's report summarized a balanced budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2003. The final piece of regular business included the report from the Audit Committee summarizing that the independent auditors Deloitte & Touche expressed satisfaction and had no disagreements with Audubon's financial statements. During the open session of the meeting, members presented five resolutions to the assembly. They included items related to Chapter financial support and National Board governance. These resolutions were also discussed at the September Board meeting in Los Angeles. At that meeting the Board referred the resolutions to committees for further consideration. After some discussion, and with the addition of a report on the Ad hoc Committee's progress by Bill McQuilkin, the Annual Meeting of Members voted unanimously to have the resolutions considered by the appropriate Board committees. At the close of the meeting Carol Browner urged the members present, Chapters, State, and Home offices to focus on the many challenges facing all of us in both making new progress and maintaining the gains already made on conservation and environmental protection throughout the country. She urged the Audubon Family to continue to rise to these challenges. John Flicker thanked outgoing Chair Donal O'Brien for his leadership and a quarter century of service to Audubon, and welcomed Carol Browner as the new Chair of the Board. # # # Audubon Newswire is sent to Audubon chapter leaders, board members, and others interested in Audubon activities nationwide.
