Hi William and Chris Mac Manus I will be attending today's meeting. Also, Stefan Romiti from Microsoft has taken over the role that Chris Vidotto used to do, and is keen to support the health BI community. He's sent out an invite to an event on Dec 4th that will cover some of the same ground as we covered with Nadav in June. For future events, Stefan has suggested that he would prefer to work in with our existing meeting schedule given there is a fair amount of overlap in attendees. He has also offered support in terms of a venue & refreshments if desirable. I have pointed out to him that part of the idea is to keep this vendor neutral so we can talk about what's working well without needing to worry about who bought the biscuits, and he is about as understanding as you can hope for from a Microsoft sales guy. From the times I have been to their events they have tended to focus on new products, so I have suggested to Stefan that there are probably not that many times a year they can talk about new stuff we can't afford :-) -- but it would be good to hear from them about stuff that we can do with what we have, because I think there is some potential in what hospitals have already licensed that is not necessarily being used. I'm thinking that it's easiest to keep up a dialogue and if they have events that are of broad interest, we can always consider offering one of our regular slots to them to host instead of trying to assemble everyone twice. I'd be interested to discuss tomorrow, or on list, or in private, what people think of this -- e.g. what sort of involvement is appropriate, and how much distance you would like to keep from any one vendor. My sources advise that Ray is real, and that he has invented a WIES estimator that could solve our coding workforce issues by rendering them irrelevant for funding. All told it was apparently lots of fun and I really missed out. But I'm not bitter anymore. No, really. Back at the September demo, Chris Mac Manus kindly offered to host the November session at the Alfred, to show off the hard work they have been doing there. Although the third Friday this month is actually next Friday, I am moving house, and there's no way I'm going to miss two of these :-) So please come along at 3pm on Friday 23rd of November to the Alfred! Chris has supplied a map and the following instructions: Location is: Alfred Hospital Meeting Room 1 Ground Floor Old Baker Building Commercial Road, Prahran (site map attached, Old Baker is at the top on the right) Directions: 1. Enter Old Baker Building main entrance (2 doors) (First Picture) 2. Walk to the end of the foyer, turn left and enter (1 door) (Second Picture) 3. Meeting Room 1 is the first door on the left (Third Picture) I don't have a specific agenda for the visit as yet: I'm sure Chris would love to know your interests. I'm hoping to see how the new warehouse is going (yay SQL 2012) and hear more about the "information grid" that Alfred are building.
