Hi all,

The meeting tomorrow afternoon will be in the DRO Common Room, Level 3, Crank
Building, 13 St Andrews Place, East Melbourne at 3pm. This meeting room isn't
as close to amenities, so you may wish to stop at the coffee counter on the way
in (or the Commune).

Your Peter Davey® Accredited Geek Trainer™ will be present on MySQL, PostgreSQL
and Pentaho BI to run through what they look like in 2013, followed by some
discussion on topics such as how to get your IT department to let you install
such things and me trying to persuade you all to eat more biscuits.

Of course, a new meeting room needs a new map:

See you there!

Hi all,

It's nearly time for the March meeting! The plan is 3pm on Friday the 15th of
March at Peter Mac, unless someone has a sudden urge to host. I will confirm
room details shortly.

At this stage I'm expecting to do an open-source show-and-tell on what I have
found out about running MySQL and/or PostgreSQL as a database with Pentaho
Community Edition for Reporting with Kettle for ETL to give a flavour of how
they compare to the SQL Server stack.

Any suggestions on good development & administration tools for MySQL and
PostgreSQL most welcome. Similarly any suggestions on an open access data set!
Otherwise I will just make up some data for the reports.

As an additional challenge I am going to try to do this using Amazon EC2 micro
instances that fit within their free tier, so that promises to be entertaining
even if the other tools are not.
