Hi,
to follow up on my previous promise...

I'll do a full test run (i.e. all media types, all write variants)
today with the new SH-224 variant, I hope that I can then say
precisely what works and what does not work, giving everyone a
better idea on what to expect.
So the outcome is (SH-224 with generic USB-S-ATA adapter on RPi 4):
The good news:
- CDFS reads Data CD/DVD
- CDVDBurn 3 reads Data CD/DVD
- CDVDBurn 3 can extract tracks from an Audio CD
- writing Data Discs of all kind works: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW,
DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM
The bad news:
- writing Audio CDs does not work at all, neither Track-at-once nor
Disc-at-once - the first command that starts to write the data
runs into a timeout (40s), the drive keeps on spinning and blinking,
the USB bus is completely blocked, the system needs a reset to work
again and to recognize the drive again
I will try to shuffle around a few commands to see if that changes
anything. The drive's behaviour makes absolutely no sense, and I
have no idea why RISC OS does not recover properly from a timeout.
The same will be done with the old variant as soon as it arrives.
I'll do that today, and then I'll try both drives on "native"
S-ATA on the Titanium. S-ATA is a lot more sensitive to timeouts,
so this will be interesting.
Stay tuned
