It's been awhile since we hiked, so let's get out this Monday for a good one.
When: Monday, March 21
Where: Melones, Glory Hole Recreation Area
The Hike: Fire Access Rd. to The Carson Creek trail to the Tower Climb
Distance: 3-1/2 to 4 miles
Meet: 10:00 at the first trailhead on the left after the entrance gate
Bring you senior pass so you can enter the park for free!
The trail starts at the first trail head on your left after the entrance gate.
We will walk down the Fire Access Rd., cross over the paved road to access the
Carson Creek trail head. The Carson Creek trail turns into the Tower Climb that
takes us back to our parked cars. The trail is pretty easy until we reach the
Tower Climb where there are switchbacks to get to the top. There isn't really
any good spot along the hike to eat lunch so let's just carry water, maybe a
snack and eat lunch back at the trail head at the end. There might be someone
already using the single picnic table so bring a chair for "just in case".
Dogs are welcome. There could be bicycles on the trail so be prepared to do a
quick recall if your dog is off leash. There is a bathroom at the trail head as
well as one at the Carson Creek trail head. Best to wear boots or hiking
shoes, bring trekking poles if you use them. Hat, etc. etc.
Weather report for here in Angels Camp shows light rain into this afternoon,
nothing for Sunday or Monday so we should be good to go. BUT if there is rain
on Monday morning we cancel.
