Those of you who have been to the airfield are aware the very wet weather
has caused surface flooding on the cropped areas which has necessitated
some remedial drainage work . This has been carried out to cause as little
disturbance as possible, only one runaway 06/24 has been affected resulting
in two land drains being laid across it about a third distance each end.
In order to mitigate the expected sinking of the trenches they have been
slightly overfilled before the turf was replaced giving a small hump. we
have consolidated the ground as much as possible and as the turf retakes
will continue to level (roll) and and if necessary refill any depression .
In light of this work and to allow the turf to re-establish the runway is
temporarily taken out of use. Hopefully by the time we can use the airfield
more normally it can be ready at least for taxying We are sorry for any
inconvenience but hope with your cooperation that can be kept to a minimum.

We have delayed the first grass cut of the season because of the real
possibility of the runways becoming muddy, the recent frosts and overcast
weather has resulted in less grass growth than expected however with warmer
weather expected we should soon be back to the normal cutting routine.
Incidentally Nigel Turner will be helping with the cutting this year.
Other news the Hangliders have purchased a new clubhouse and have arranged
for the old one to be removed we are waiting for the
subsoil water level to drop and the surface to dry out.
Now that the frosts have gone the water can be left on and the outside tap
and hand basin reconnected. Please use the basin for hand washing only . It
is there to avoid having to enter the toilets for that purpose.
We expect everyone using the field to obey the covid rules .
I am sure the everyone using the field will want to tidy up their areas
after such a long lay off things can understandably get a bit unkempt.
Mark is itching to get going with a a lot of new students and should be
back on the field as I write.
We hope for a great flying season and a chance to make up for lost time
and to see you at the air field as soon as possible
