Dear Members,
Me again with your next weekly bulletin from the Chair. Don’t worry, I won’t
keep this up!
Firstly, I had a great response from so many members last week both
congratulating me on the new role and thanking Jocasta for her great work over
the previous three years. Thank you.
I also had a brilliant response to the call out for help and as a result,
Louise Williamson has taken on one of the Press roles (there is always room for
anyone else who wants to get involved), new member David Mullin has volunteered
to take on the Environment Champion role for the club and Andy Smith has
stepped forward as a co-optee with a special interest in running and mental
health issues which we have had squarely on the agenda over the past year.
Along with Thirza Hyde’s nomination, we have all co-optee positions filled
which is a great start to the year.
Secondly, and equally importantly, we have a Race Organiser vacancy for our
annual Widdop Fell Race. This is scheduled as a midweek (usually a Wednesday)
evening race in mid-July with the Pack Horse Inn as the race HQ. Chris
Holdsworth has had to step down this year and we are looking for new Race
Organisers - ideally a combination of two people who can work together to put
on the race. Don’t worry if you haven’t managed a race before, we have loads of
experience in the club and plenty of people who can support you in setting up
and delivering a great event. And don’t worry if you are new to the club, we
love new members coming forward and getting involved at the heart of what we do.

At last night’s Club AGM I was elected as CVFR Chair for the coming year - a
position I am honoured to take up. I hope to do at least half as good a job
as outgoing Chair, Jocasta Fletcher, who has been brilliant over the past 3
years. A big thank you to Jocasta for her hard work and great leadership.
And many thanks to the committee members past and present who do a fantastic
job of keeping the club running (!) and to all the other club volunteers who
help with an extraordinary range of roles that are vital for the safe and
healthy organisation of our races, social events and the club’s junior
section.
Plus, a call out for MORE help!
We still have a couple of roles to fill and I would like to encourage all
members - whether you are brand new to the club or have been around for an
age - to think about putting yourself forward. These are:
- Two Co-optee positions on the Committee one of which will lead on
developing a positive environmental policy and actions to ensure that we keep
the club’s impact on the planet as light as possible. Co-optees are invited
to take up their role at the next Committee Meeting on 10th January 2023.
- Press Officer. We have four at present who produce the weekly press/news
report on a four weekly rota. Tim will be giving up this role in the new year
(he will continue as the club’s Access Officer) so we have an upcoming
vacancy for anyone who fancies their hand as a budding sports journalist (It
really is quite good fun and you get to know a lot more about your club as
you go along).
If anyone is interested or might be persuadable, just drop me a line and we
can have a chat.
