When I was just trying to approach, and asking Mike to contact the controller,
he keeps asking to cancel Ifr clearance. Is this because I didn't acknowledge
an instruction in time or something?

Declan,
That’s rather odd. The fact remains that VFR is definitely the only time you
should be able to request flight following. So I’m not sure what’s going on
in this case, but definitely suggest being careful about selecting IFR in
future
Best,
Zack.

Actually I've just checked in the folder and the flight listed was IFR.

Declan,
Part of the problem was that you were flying VFR. THe same key which
contacts a controller is used to request flight following in this case.
Flight following is exclusively a VFR service.

Zack.

hi, just looking for some confirmation. I was ready to depart when the
airport told me to hold short due to traffic, I acknowledged this and told
Mike to wait a minute when he asked for takeoff clearance confirmation
agaim. After a while Mike said we already had takeoff clearance, so I
assumed it would be fine, but when I took off he did not contact the
controller even though we were at 3000 feet by that point and when I
forced him to do so manually by saying contact controller he asked for the
airport to track our flight with flight following. Was the problem just
that I hadn't received takeoff clearance when I took off?Blind and
