How do I get into settings if I am not seeing it from that stupid
opening screen? is there a config file I can modify? And I remember
alt-f and alt-l from before, but they didn't work from the opening
screen.

Before you do that, though, I would create a flightplan and save it
with a flight, and then make it the default. This flight will load
once you open simulator after that, and from then on you can use the
menus. I'll warn you, though, these menus aren't your traditional
menus. Things like Alt F will work, but to navigate like that you have
to know what the shortcuts are. Ex. Alt F for flights, L for load to
bring up the load flight dialog.
