Hello BU Rocket Propulsion Group,
Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) is a small private research company located
north of Boston in Andover, MA that specializes in developing technological
solutions and products for our government as well as commercial customers.
My group within PSI, Armament Technologies, focuses on developing
innovative rocket propulsion technologies for NASA, the DOD, and the NAVY
as well as other government agencies.
A little about myself, I am a Boston University 2016 Mechanical Engineer
alumni as well as a former member of BURPG. I first started working for
Physical Sciences Inc. as an intern the summer after my junior year. I
loved my time at PSI and I was lucky enough that my group had an opening
for when I graduated from BU. I learned a lot of skills during my time at
BURPG which I got to apply and refine during my internship at PSI. At that
time, BURPG was developing its hybrid rocket engines and I was able to
translate that experience to some solid rocket/ramjet applications for PSI
which allowed me to significantly contribute to programs at PSI.
My colleague Mehmet Akbulut who is also a BU 2016 ME alumni as well as a
former member of BURPG works within the Armament Technologies group as
well. In acknowledgement of our performance as well as our preparations
coming out of BU, we were asked to reach out back to the BURPG group in
order to recruit for a summer position and so we have some high
expectations for the next BU candidates to come through.
We are looking for an internship candidate interested in research and
development of prototype rocket propulsion systems. The candidate will work
closely with a small team of scientists/engineers to develop, build, and
operate these experimental setups. Solid hands on experience is required
for this position; a candidate should be familiar with basic hand tools and
be able to work with mechanical hardware with little guidance. Some of this
work may be performed outside at remote testing locations. The candidate
should also be comfortable with performing design tasks in SolidWorks.
In addition to engineering tasks, an intern is expected to be able to work
in a laboratory environment. Basic chemistry skills (think CH131) are
desirable. Because of the nature of our work, US Citizenship is a strict
requirement. Unfortunately there isn’t any convenient public transit option
to get to the PSI office from Boston, although it is easily accessible from
the highway. It is possible to find a place to live within walking distance
around the office, but it’s not like Boston/Cambridge/Somerville where a
summer sublet is easy to find.
