Support for Banstead Underwater Diving
The Regional Coaches met up on 12th February to explore how we can better
support clubs. As you can imagine, there were lots of ideas, of which we agreed
to focus on two high-priority items:
1. Offer regionally arranged open water and theory training for diving grades
Many clubs are struggling to deliver diver training due to a lack of active
instructors. With this in mind the Regional Teams are working together to
arrange further open water Diver Training Days at local dive sites across the
UK. Theory days have also been organised. We hope that this will help to take
some pressure off branches that are short of instructors, or offer a catch up
opportunity for students who have missed their scheduled lessons. The idea is
that members will book on the event and let us know which diver grade lessons
they need to complete. We will offer each student at least two open water
lessons each day, as well as some dive management tuition.
If you have trainees that you believe could benefit from these days, please
pass this information on to them. We will not be contacting entry-level
trainees about this directly as we didn't want to risk confusion at this early
stage in their training. We are looking to follow this up with a direct email
to qualified divers to advertise the events. Members can check dates and book

2. Help you to work with nearby branches
When branches work together we know they can achieve great things. We’ve heard
stories of branches who deliver joint training courses, offer the chance to
catch up on missed lessons, share pools, help each other with instruction,
listen to some great guest speakers, and who run expeditions or share charter
boat bookings.
If you are running SDCs within your branch and want to increase the numbers,
then please contact HQ to advertise your event on our web pages.
The Regional teams are looking to arrange get-togethers between local branches,
so that you can get to know each other and explore the possibilities. If
Banstead Underwater Diving would like to host one of these meetings please
contact your Regional Coach.
