Subject: [budc] Drysuits
In a recent BSAC news email the item below appeared. Having checked my details
on the BSAC website there is no mention that I am drysuit qualified and I
suspect that many of us are the same. Is it worth Julian as DO sending an email
to the email address they give, giving them the names of all of us who use
drysuits so everyone's records can be updated together?
Instructor records - Drysuit
As a BSAC Instructor you are no doubt aware BSAC training does not distinguish
between learning to dive either in a wetsuit or a drysuit. For diving and
training in the UK the majority of the time a drysuit is the protective
clothing of choice for open water for Ocean Diver onwards.[Instructor records -
drysuit]
The ongoing revision of the Diver Training Programme will in due course
emphasise this point more clearly and in order to provide the means for
recording a student's drysuit competence, amendments have already been made to
Q-card forms to allow a box to be ticked by the verifying instructor confirming
this. On receipt, the individual's membership record will be updated to show
drysuit training has been completed.
The HQ Diving Resources Team (DRT) has been promoting this to instructors and
branches for the last 18 months and many records have been updated. Having a
drysuit attribute on your training record means that should for any reason you
need to demonstrate this competence, for example in hiring a drysuit in the UK
or at locations such as Iceland, Alaska or Canada, then you would be able to
access your online record to provide the necessary evidence.
BSAC also recognises that Instructors may wish to train students in drysuits at
inland sites in the UK and consequently may need to provide evidence of their
instructor status to allow their students to hire a drysuit. This may be
especially important to instructors supporting university clubs or large
contingents of young students. As a result, all Instructors for whom we have a
record of drysuit competence have been credited as Drysuit Instructor on the
BSAC membership database.
Please check that your online record accurately reflects your status. You can
do this by logging on to www.bsac.com<http://www.bsac.com/>.
If your online record does not reflect your capability we would request that
you either submit evidence (logbook sticker) or ask another instructor to
confirm your status to drt@xxxxxxxx<mailto:drt@xxxxxxxx>.
Alternatively, if there are a large number of members in your club who need
their records updating your Diving and or Training Officers can request a list
of members from drt@xxxxxxxx<mailto:drt@xxxxxxxx> which they can subsequently
update.
