Subject: [bubs] Re: Pre-Season Starts this Wednesday, May 1!
Hi Jason,
I won’t be able to make the practice today but will change my schedule for the
rest of May so we can practice together before the regatta.
See you next week.

Hey Boston Blind Sailors! The pre-season is upon us!
As your newly elected Coaching Committee Chairs, Leo and I would like to invite
you to come to Wednesday night Robie Pierce practice for the month of May.
Practice starts this Wednesday, May 1, at 5:30 PM at Community Boating. We will
be practicing in Ideal 18s.
Even if you haven't signed up for the Robie Pierce regatta, we welcome your
attendance. The more the merrier, and bonus points if you bring a sighted
guide, or a new sailor. It's a good time to stretch those sailing muscles and
shake off the dust (and that goes for our guides, too)! If it's your first
season and you've managed to wander onto this list, I have put directions and
relevant info about Community Boating below the signature.
If you would like to sign up for the Robie Pierce regatta, or you are looking
for a team, there is lots of information on their website, here:
http://www.robiepierceonedesignregatta.com/
You can also read the Notice of Race, which is attached. The dates are May 31 -
June 2, but if you want to put together a ladies' team as well, the women's
regatta is May 30th and is free for female regatta participants.
Please RSVP to this email if you are coming to practice this Wednesday, May 1!
And, feel free to forward this email to anyone you'd like to introduce to blind
sailing.
We will begin our regular practice schedule in June.
Your devoted coaches,
Grace and Leo
If it's your first time coming to Community Boating:
- You will need to fill out a waiver, so please come early and talk to the
folks at the front desk.
- If you are visually impaired, you can also sign up for a Universal Access
Program membership. The price is $50, but if that is not possible for you, you
may pay $1. Joining the UAP gets you access to sailing lessons with instructors
trained in teaching adaptive sailing, as well as all the benefits of being a
member.
- Memberships at CBI are not required for participation in Boston Blind Sailing
for either guides or VI sailors, but it does simplify our boat check-out
process.
- We tend to gather at one of the picnic tables on the dock, to the right when
you walk out of the building.
What to bring:
- Athletic clothes that can get wet
- Sunscreen
- Enthusiasm
- Life jackets are provided; so you don't need to bring one unless you want to.
Directions to Community Boating, Inc.:
Address: 21 David G. Mugar Way, Boston, MA 02114
By T: Take the Red Line to Charles/MGH and exit through the doors towards the
river. Turn left, walk 100 feet, and cross two consecutive sidewalks over
Cambridge Street. Turn right and cross the crosswalk over Charles Street, which
may have some construction barriers on the other side. Follow along inside the
construction barriers about 25 feet, then cross another crosswalk back over
Cambridge Street to your right. Turn left and walk over the Fanny Appleton foot
bridge. Follow the left railing to avoid being led down any stairs. At the end
of the bridge, turn right onto the Esplanade bike path and walk about 50 feet,
then turn left and you will be in front of Community Boating.
By Uber: Many ubers have a hard time getting to a safe place to let you off at
Community Boating, though occasionally they figure it out. A lot of our sailors
prefer to have ubers drop them off at the CVS at 155 Charles St, Boston, MA
02114. From there, the directions are the same as above - turn around and walk
across the Charles Street crosswalk to the construction barriers.
By Ride: The Ride can figure out how to get into CBI, but its notoriety for
being late makes it the last one I suggest.
If you have any questions, please let us know!
