Louisiana Birders,
Well, nine birders got rained out shortly after starting, though some good
birds were found. Best birds were Black-bellied Plover (a pale-bellied
possible juv by Jim Ingold and co- different than bird yesterday) then an
ultra-amazing Brown-headed Nuthatch heard by Terri Jacobsen and Martha
Lennard in the row of trees along the road right before leaving. A Bell's
Vireo was also good. A Cooper's Hawk (probable juv f) was another of four
additions not had on the previous days list. Ronnie Maum got some really
good pictures, as always, even considering the horrible conditions for
doing so. I've copied and pasted date and effort below, followed by a link

Davis led a field trip to find shorebirds for the Shreveport Bird Study
Group at Red River NWR Bayou Pierre Yates Tract. Participants included
Larry Raymond, Jim Ingold, Jeff Trahan, Terri Jacobson, Ronnie Maum, Martha
Lennard, Sandy Roerig, Mark Wilson, and Chris Merritt. Traveled 1.5 mi. by
vehicle and only counted a couple of moist soil areas due to rain ending
birding early. Clouds 80% at start; temp. 79 F; wind NNE. Cloudy with rain
beginning and approaching from N; temp. 79 F; winds NNE at 3 mph at end.

In other local news. There are at least three pairs of Mississippi Kite
feeding juveniles in our neighborhood, with two prs within a short walk of
my apt door (one associating near the yard). The closest group has four
youngsters. I've been grabbing recordings here and there when most calm and
quiet, which is of rare occurrence here. Good birding. ((:
