Subject: [LABIRD-L] Derivation of the name "Prothonotary"

LABIRD: For a good read on the derivation of the name of one our
signature birds, see Rick Wright's nicely written article on this, which
strongly disputes the traditional story of the derivation (after the
color of the robes worn by the legal advisor to the Pope):

t-that/

Rick's idea is that the name was strictly home-grown, here in Louisiana,
and had nothing to do with papal offices.

There are a number of people on LABIRD with interests in Cajun and
Louisiana culture, so if anyone has any insights, please speak up.
