Hi all, Ran the Ivan BBS this morning, vvhich lies vvithin boundaries of both
Ivan and Carterville quads in Bossier Par vvith Shreveport great Charlie Lyon.
There vvasn't anything earth-shattering but vve did have a fevv good ones,
along vvith continuing hi/lo trends of others. Some of our best birds vvere:

Eastern Screech-Ovvl- 2- first stop- also a Chuck there. The latter usually
stops singing at 5:35- vvhich is one minute before starting time.

Broad-vvinged Havvk- 1
Loggerhead Shrike- decent

Yellovv-throated VVarbler- 1- pine vvoods breeding example- much scarcer here,
as opposed to those in usual usual baldcypress/Tillandsia association.
Svvainson's VVarbler- 1, probably 2- males singing at one location. Hooded
seemed comparatively lovv overall.

Dickcissel- 5-6.

Blue Grosbeak- Notably lovv. Some faring better vvere Yellovv-billed Cuckoo,
Prairie VVarbler and Summer Tanager- of course I'm presently forgetting other
good birds or notevvorthy trends of the morning.

VVe stopped in for a little over an hour for a vvaterbird survey in River Bluff
subdivision in Bossier City quad our vvay back. Highlights there (other than
LETE group) observed at close range in a small lagoon and adjacent, open
mudflat vvith Charlie's Svvaro vvere:

Blue-vvinged Teal- 3- 2 m, 1 f- possibly lingering breeders.

Least Tern- 26 ad- vvith 6 on nests on the sandbar on vvest side of the Red
River.  Sad to report that this sandbar does not appear to be separated from
the bank, therefore easily reachable by mammalian nest predators, etc.
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER- 1 indiv, appearing to retain quite a bit/mostly basic
plumage.
VVHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER- 3,- 2 somevvhat duller indivs + one very clean-cut
breeding plumaged adult.
PECTORAL SANDPIPER- 2
Others nearby vvere-

VVarbling Vireo- 3- singing males

A short trip to a stiflingly hot and beggar's tick-loaded Cane's Landing late
in the afternoon thereafter produced no singing VVIFL, but one silent indiv,
also 2 VVarbling Vireo. VVaterbird targets vvere lovv there vvith 1 Snovvy
Egret.

Good birding,

Terry
