Not sure if Tommy sent an email to captains about this. But this guy has
covered for us in goal a few times over the years. And I know we have all
played against him more than once.
"Hey everyone,
As many of you have heard, our friend, our very own rent-a-goalie, Jimmy
Distasio, AKA Jimmy the Cop, AKA Jimmy the Goalie, was involved in a serious
accident while he was on the job recently. His family and department have
started a fund to help out his family.
As his hockey family we came up with our own way of helping out. A marathon
hockey game, in honor of the nights Jimmy spent here from 5pm until midnight
playing goal for whoever asked. Well, now we are asking you all to help him
out.
On 12/26 we will have a marathon hockey day starting at 6:00pm and ending
whenever we run out of bodies. Each hour will be limited to 16 skaters and 2
goalies. To make sure we don’t have everyone show up at once, there will be a
sign up sheet that is on a first come, first served basis and you’ll have to
sign up in advance, by the hour.
• 6pm-7pm - $20/hr
• 7pm-8pm - $20/hr
• 8pm-9pm - $20/hr
• 9pm-9:15pm – Break to sweep the floor, clean up locker rooms, benches, around
the rink, etc.
• 9:15pm-9:30pm – Hardest Shot Competition – Accuracy Competition*
• 9:30pm-10:30pm – DEK HOCKEY - $20/hr
• 10:30pm-11:30pm - $10/hr
• 11:30pm –on - $10/hr
*$5 entry, 100% proceeds go to the #teamJimmyD fund - Prize for 1st place in
each contest: Revolt Hockey Hat&Tee.
Players are encouraged to sign up for as many slots as they would like….be they
consecutive or split... If we can get guys here earlier than 6, I am available
ALL day….so I will start as early as we can get people in here. There will be a
signup form at the rink for slots and you MUST pay via check ONLY. I cannot
reserve your spot…you need to pay when you sign up since the spots are so
limited and I am imagining a HEAVY desire for the earlier spots. Checks should
be made out to: Mount Arlington FOP Lodge #78. Please bring a check with you
when you sign up. Sorry if it is inconvenient. NO EXCEPTIONS.
We know it is a rough day for everyone being the day after Christmas, but it’s
the soonest availability the rink has in a large enough block to allow all of
his friends to help out. We want to do what Jimmy would do for any of us and
play hockey all night long.
We will have food and drinks here for everyone and donations are highly
encouraged…be it food/drink/money/whatever. If you can’t play but want to come
hang and help out logistically, that would be AWESOME. If you own/know a
business that would be interested in donating stuff for the night ( Gatorade,
water, snacks ) that would be FANTASTIC too!
