Larry Kirksey has an amazing nesting development

at his home in Bristol Virginia.

What appears to be a House Wren is sharing a

nest box with a snake !

The box is a bit crowded because it has a full

nest of baby wrens occupying the box with

the small snake.

The adult wrens come and go regularly feeding

their young and seem to pay little attention to

the snake.

Larry believes this has been occurring

for about 10 days.

The snake pokes its head out of the box hole

from time to time. It appears to be about the

width of a human's little finger.

Since the nest hangs from a wire under the

eve of his house, Larry says it must have been

a "difficult trek" for the snake to get into the

box.

He has decided to leave everything as is

and let nature take its course. He believes

the wren nestlings will soon depart and

are probably large enough to avoid

being what he called a "snake snack."
