The 60th Roan Mountain CBC was held on Sunday, 16 Dec, under
dreary conditions (light to moderate rain all day, but fairly mild). Most
of us threw in the towel, literally, by 2 pm.

13 observers in 4 parties; this was largest number of parties in count
history (usually just 2 parties, sometimes 3).

44 species was right on the average over the last 30 years.

One species was new to this count: Canada Goose (21).

Other highlights & comments:
Ruffed Grouse (1);
Rock Pigeon - none in last 8 years, had been regular 1987-2004;
Am. Robin & Cedar Waxwing - none, see comments above for these species;
White-cr. Sparrow (23) - only 3rd record on this count;
Red-br. Nuthatch (2), Purple Finch & Pine Siskin (none) - see comments above;
Red Crossbill (2) - likely resident Appalachian birds.

Thanks to all participants, especially those who endured the rain on Sunday.
