Rick, Wallace et al., Actually there were two Great Blue Heron nests on that same island on 2 May 2005, as I reported on that date to both Tn-bird and bristol-birds. I was out of town over that summer, so I don't know their fate. By winter, they had largely been destroyed by weather. Nice to know that they are rebuilding this year. Sorry for the late response, but I just returned from Costa Rica. ################### Rick Knight Johnson City, TN rknight@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: Rick Phillips <sunfish0501@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: tn-bird <tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Bristol Birds <bristol-birds@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Friday, March 03, 2006 1:12 PM Subject: [Bristol-Birds] great blue heron nests >Another site to add to our growing list of active Great Blue Heron rookeries in upper east Tennessee. This morning around 11:30 am I was driving down Netherland Inn road along the S Fork Holston River when I looked over and noticed a few Great Blue Herons sitting atop what looked like nests on the island just southwest of the old Netherland Inn. I turned around and got out for a closer look. Sure enough there were six adult herons and three of them were standing on stick nests. I counted three active nests and one smaller nest that could be under construction. I didn't see these nests last week as I drove by there several times, so it appears this can happen rather quickly. I'll keep an eye on them and be on the lookout for others. Wallace Coffey confirms as far as he knows this is a new site. > >Rick > >Rick Phillips >Kingsport, Tennessee >************************************************* > BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST >Bristol Birds Net Photo Gallery located at: >http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jwcoffeyy/album?.dir >This is a regional birding list sponsored by the >Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications >between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia >and Northeast Tennessee. >-------------------------------------------------- >You are subscribed to Bristol-Birds. >To post to this mailing list, simply send an email >to: bristol-birds@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe, send >an email to bristol-birds-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with >the one word 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. >-------------------------------------------------- > Wallace Coffey, Moderator > wallace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > (423)764-**** > > ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST Bristol Birds Net Photo Gallery located at: http://photos.yahoo.com/ph/jwcoffeyy/album?.dir=/efd5 This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. -------------------------------------------------- You are subscribed to Bristol-Birds.
