As uncertain as the Tropical Storm Isaac has been, the current cone track call for the storm to close out as a Tropical Depression by 2 p.m. Monday with all of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee predicted within the cone track. Keep in mind this is the Weather Underground cone and not all cones are in agreement. At this hour, it is just something to think about. This includes all river and impoundment areas, small ponds and good waterbird habitat in the Bristol-Birds Net coverage area. Arkansas will be the first area to reach a Tropical Depression state meaning any pelagic birds and Gulf birds will, perhaps, fall out in the Mid-South. For our coverage area, we may get more western species from the interior of the country driven into our area as well as possible species from impacted southern states. Of course this is nothing more than a heads up to start your bird thinking for the weekend and especially Sunday. The Herndon TOS chapter field trip Saturday to Rankin Bottoms is maybe well positioned by what we know now, with or without rainfall. At 2 p.m. Saturday, the storm will be well in the Mid-South and not yet reaching us. It is far too early to predict anything but it is not too early to be watching what the weather folks are predicting at this time. Wallace Coffey Bristol, TN
