Hello Bristol Birders! This is a summary of today's BBC field trip to Winged
Deer Park, Austin Springs and South Holston Lake. Ten birders began on a
chilly but bright morning and were a little (not totally) disappointed with the
results. A special aspect of the trip was the participation of Allen and Mary
Thompson from New York, who joined us for the day. The following is our
sighting list: Canada Goose, Mallard, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue
Heron, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Red-tailed Hawk, Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs,
Least Sandpiper, Ring-billed Gull, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Belted
Kingfisher, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Blue Jay, American Crow,
Purple Martin, Tree Swallow, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Carolina Chickadee,
Turfted Titmouse, Carolina Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher,
Eastern Bluebird, American Robin, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling,
Yellow-rumped Warbler, American Redstart, Eastern Towhee, Chipping Sparrow,
Savannah Sparrow, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow,
Northern Cardinal, Red-winged Blackbird, Eastern Meadowlark, Common Grackle,
Brown-headed Cowbird, American Goldfinch, House Sparrow. Kudos to Rick Knight
who found many of these birds! If those who attended see any omissions, please
post them! Next field trip is a 4 day venture to Toledo, Ohio in May. I will
post a more detailed reminder later this week containing all the details. You
must sign up by May 1 to be guaranteed a room and place on the trip.
