"Ten Islands" is a local name for the portion of Douglas Lake between the Leadvale RR crossing and Waters Bridge. It includes about 3 square miles of TVA lake easement area; at the current elevation (970'), roughly 25% is exposed mudflat or shallow sloughs.

We traveled by canoe from the Walters Bridge boat launch about 2 miles toward Leadvale and spent 2 hours scanning the area below Browns Hollow Rd, between the 2 concrete silos.

Observations (all in Cocke county):

Canada Goose (25 flying over)
Wood duck (3)
Mallard (12)
Northern shoveler (6)
Dabbling ducks (200+) - we couldn't get very close to this flock, but 50 or more were quite small, with some showing the green & rufous head coloring of breeding male green-winged teal
Pied-billed grebe (8)
Double-crested cormorant (6)
Great blue heron (35)
Great egret (24)
Bald eagle (1 adult)
Red-shouldered hawk
American coot (28)
SANDHILL CRANE (1 flyover)
Black-bellied plover (1 imm.)
Killdeer (45)
Greater yellowlegs
Least sandpiper (75+)
