[Bristol-Birds] Sullivan Cty water areas--Tues., Dec. 9

Reece Jamerson, Gil Derouen, Charles Moore, and I birded some water areas in Sullivan Cty. on Tuesday, Dec. 9. We had fog in the beginning (8:30a.m.) at Piney Flats until we got to Musick's Campground at noon. There it cleared up to continue as a nice, sunny day. Highlights:

Paddle Creek Pond:
Ring-necked Ducks 10
Kingfisher 1

Weir Dam:
Wigeon 4
Common Goldeneye (M) 1
Bufflehead 32
Great Blue Heron 1

S. Holston Lake Dam overlook:
completely socked in--we couldn't even see the water

Rooty Branch Rd. Beaver Pond:
Black Duck 2
Mallard 25
N. Shoveler (M) 1
Great Blue Heron 1

Colebrook Rd.:
Junco 7

Observation Knob Rd.:
Cooper's Hawk (imm.) 1

Musick's Campground:
Common Loon 3
Horned Grebe 4
Pied-billed Grebe 7
Red=breasted Merganser 1
D. C. Cormorant 2
Great Blue Heron 1
Ring-billed Gull 7
Bonaparte's Gull 17
Kingfisher 1
White-crowned Sparrow 4
We did not see the Rufous Hummingbird, but Mae Musick and Carol Carr reported seeing it near their porch area several times earlier in the morning.

Middlebrook Lake:
Black Vulture 75 They have been congregating around the Lake and especially around the Dam
