I visited Rural Retreat Lake this morning to see if anything unusual was there before the snow and cold weather predicted for the next two or three days. This was the first day I had been there in quite a while that the wind was not blowing so badly. The sparrows were enjoying the calm, as I saw Song, Swamp, Field, White-throat and 2 Fox Sparrows. These were the first Fox Sparrows I had seen at RRL this fall & winter. There were the normal Canada Geese & Mallards along with 1 Ruddy Duck still on the Lake (there have been Ruddy's present for at least three weeks now). I also had 1 Hooded Merganser, 3 female Scaup, 1 Pied-bill Grebe and 16 Ring- bill Gulls. Maybe the stormy weather predicted for Thanksgiving will stir up the birds a little and bring something different.
