Area Birders, This morning another adult WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was at my platform feeder along with 4 immatures. This is only the second adult I have seen this season. The other adult was at the feeder a couple of days ago. I also had 3 PURPLE FINCHES, one immature looking male (pinkish cast overall) and two females. Later in the day my wife, Lynda, and I checked out Laurel Lake in the Breaks Park. We were hoping to see some of the 48 Hooded Mergansers, Scaup and Ring-necked Ducks that were on the lake last Saturday, but the only waterfowl to be found were 7 WOOD DUCKS. They are indeed one of our most beautiful birds. While I was looking for ducks a small feeder flock came through containing both RUBY-CROWNED and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS. Present also was my first HERMIT THRUSH of the season. Enjoy the birds, Roger Mayhorn Grundy, VA ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
