Carter Co., TN
Roan Mountain

Cathy Myers and I birded the Roan Mountain area this morning.

Just before daylight we had a Northern Saw-whet Owl calling in the parking lot
at Carver's Gap. The bird was calling repeatedly from the edge of the lot with
the marked parking spaces. We also had a single Alder Flycatcher calling from
the thicket next to the lot.

Following directions from Nora Schubert, we found a Black-billed Cuckoo at
Hampton Creek Cove. The bird made a brief appearance and then disappeared back
into the forest. In the 1.5 hours that we waited on it, it never vocalized.
