My parents, Harry and Sue Farthing, called me Saturday morning and told me
their friend Harriet Baker, who lives on Boone Lake, had seen 9 swans on the
lake behind her home. I went to her house on Lake Point Drive about noon and
she reported the birds had flown across the peninsula. We jumped in her car
and relocated the birds behind a house at 836 Lake Point Drive. The owner of
the house graciously allowed me to set up my scope on her boat deck. There
were 9 Mute Swans swimming behind her house. 7 appeared to be adults and two
had slightly darker bills and appeared to be immatures. I called Glen Eller
and Roy Knispel to report the sighting. Jerry Bevins came out and saw the
birds and Glen Eller also came out and found them a little later in the day. I
don't know if we can count them, but they were a beautiful sight.
