[Bristol-Birds] Mike Poe draws large crowd for BBC program

Bristol Bird Club member Mike Poe presented an excellent
PowerPoint program at the October meeting of the club,
Tuesday evening.
A turnout of 33 birders was on hand to hear Poe's
talk "Bonaire Birds & Fish - How Do They Relate"? It featured
beautiful underwater color photos of fish in the Dutch Caribbean
which were taken there by Poe in the past 15-20 years.
He laced in his great movies of both fish and birds as
an interesting and educational feature. His details and
technical understand was in considerable depth.
Sixteen birders were on hand for a Dutch dinner at the Mad
Greek Restaurant prior to the meeting.
Other Caribbean scuba divers and snorkelers/birders who were
on hand and had been diving at Bonaire were Joy Crass,
Mary Erwin, Steve McClellan, Lola McClellan, Lynda Newman
and Dexter Newman.
Dr. John Moyle reported a Pine Siskin has been at his feeder
in the past few days. Wallace Coffey informed the group that
Roger Mayhorn has photographed an Eurasian Collared-Dove
at his feeder in Buchanan County and asked that everyone
keep a lookout for the species.
A motion to appoint Tom Hunter as coordinator of the annual
Mendota Hawk count, along with Ron Harrington as co-coordinator,
was passed unanimously. Hunter was designated by BBC to that
position for 2009. The new appointment will run continuous
without annual re-appointment.
Hunter gave a report on the participation and results of this
year's fall count and thanked everyone who went up on the
mountain at Mendota to help count the migrating hawks.
Despite considerable expenses, Treasurer Janice Martin
reported that the BBC has $2,226 in petty cash, cash on hand
and deposits.

Several new members were in attendance.
