As first reported weeks ago a single juvenile Little Blue Heron is still
present hanging out near the island used as a rookery and roost for Great
Blue Herons, Double Crested Cormorants, and Black Vultures just downstream
from the historic Netherland Inn. This is most species diverse section of
the Kingsport Birding Trail (KBT) with over 115 species and subspecies
published on electronic media services. Some records date back over 20
years indicating this area has a long history of drawing and holding birds
for viewing. The location is often used for recreational birding, citizen
science projects like bird counts, as well as, chapters of the Tennessee
Ornithological Society (TOS) field trips, and academic studies by local and
regional biology classes. The Kingsport Greenbelt access offers free
parking and a paved path along the South Fork Holston river. If you are
