Bristol Birders, I had some nice birds show up in and around my yard in the past week - including a couple of new yard birds. A few days ago I saw a Spotted Sandpiper along the riverbank while mowing grass. He only stayed a minute or so and then took off down the river. Yesterday Michelle and I spotted a singing American Redstart in the birch trees behind the house. We also have a resident Yellow Warbler as well as Wood Thrush and Hooded Warblers just across the river. The Osprey made a couple of appearances this week - once circling with a Red-tail Hawk high above the ridgeline. That was the first time I had ever seen these two species interact with each other. A Great Blue Heron was fishing just below the house yesterday and further down the river I found a large Beaver eating birch saplings. It didn't seem to mind my presence and actually swam towards me to within 25 feet or so at one point. This morning at the public library in Grundy I noted several Chimney Swifts over the river and heard our resident Blue-winged Warbler in the overgrown fields up on the mountain behind the library.
