The following is a preliminary list of activities of the Herndon Bird Club for October--more information to follow: 1. Saturday, October 1-- Field trip to the Big Bald banding station. Banding activity in fall includes capture and banding of Hawks. Meet at the U.S. Forest Service station in Unicoi at 8:00 a.m. Leader is Joe McGuiness--call him ahead of time if you plan to go. Joe's phone is 423-743-0065. Bring drinks and your lunch. This trip includes an up-hill hike of about one mile. 2. Tuesday, October 4--Regular club meeting at the Science Building (first floor, to the right just inside the entrance) at Milligan College. Agenda and program to follow. 3. EVERY SATURDAY in October, 2-hour field trip starting at the Sycamore Shoals parking lot. Leader: Bryan Stevens. During the earlier weeks, a number of species of warblers and other fall migrants are commonly seen. Later in the month, sparrow species are common as well.
