The Herndon Bird Club will have a field trip to the MAPS bird banding station on Round Bald on Saturday, May 24. Meet at the U.S. Forest Service Station in Unicoi at 7 a.m. (If you are coming from Johnson City, get off at the Unicoi Exit--exit 32--and turn left. The Forest Service Station will be up the hill on your right within a couple of blocks.) Participants will carpool to the parking lot near the banding station. There will be a hike (about half a mile) up hill to the banding station. Bring your lunch--the trip will last most of the day. You will have the opportunity to see how bird banding is done. There will be opportunities to photograph the banders as they work and to photograph banded birds. The trip will be led by Club Members Joe McGuiness and Kim Stroud. Please let Joe know if you plan to go on this trip--call him at 423-743-0065.
