The Herndon Bird Club will hold its annual summer Carter County Bird Count this Saturday, June 7.

The Herndon Club final nightjar survey will be on Monday night, June 9. We will assemble at 8:30 p.m. at Primo's Restaurant in Elizabethton and set out by 8:45 for the count in the Fish Springs area. If you would like to join the group to eat dinner beforehand at Primo's, be there about 7:30 p.m. Leaders are Joe McGuiness and Kim Stroud. Participants will carpool because parking is limited at the counting stops.
The survey will begin after 9 p.m. and will consist of 10 stops, one mile apart, where the participants count nightjar calls heard for a six-minute period at each stop. The route is already defined and the same route is used each year. Because of the number of stops and time and distance involved, the survey will take at least an hour and a half, so realistically, if you participate, you won't get back to Primo's until midnight.
