The Herndon Bird Club will have two Christmas Bird Counts in December:

Elizabethton Christmas Bird Count  Saturday, December 14.  Group leaders and 
areas follow:
Area One:  Elizabethton, Sycamore Shoals, Linear Walkway Park (Leader is Joe 
McGuiness)
Area Two:  Wilbur Lake, Rasar Farm, Lynn Valley, Siam (Leaders are Glen Eller 
and Roy Knispel)
Area Three:  Hampton, Dennis Cove (Leader is Tom McNeil)
Area Four:  Butler, Little Milligan (Leaders are Gary Wallace and Bryan Stevens)
Area Five:  Stoney Creek, Panhandle Road (Leader is Rick Knight)
Area Six:  Biltmore, opposite (north across the river) of Sycamore Shoals, 
sewage treatment plant (Leader is Fred Alsop)
Contact me, Rick Knight (rknight8@xxxxxxxxxxxxx)  or other group leader if you 
would like to participate and aren't now assigned to a group.

Roan Mountain Christmas Bird Count  Sunday, December 15.  Group areas, leaders, 
meeting places and starting times are:
Group 1: Ripshin, Hampton Creek, Town of Roan Mountain (Leader is Fred Alsop, 
meeting at 6:00 a.m. at Milligan College).
Group 2:  Roan Mountain State Park (Leader is Rick Knight, meeting at 7:00 a.m. 
at the water wheel at the Visitors' Center).

Club Christmas Party and CBC compilation:  meet at Gil and Mary Derouen's 
residence at 6:00 p.m.  Bring a plate of finger food to share for the supper.  
Drinks, plates and utensils will be provided.  The Derouen residence is at 2702 
Avondale Drive on the NW side of Johnson City.  Their phone number is 283-7767. 
 Compilation of the counts will be done after we eat.  Club calendars will be 
available ($15 per calendar) at the Party.

The next club meeting will be the regular January Meeting, but NOTE--it will be 
on the SECOND Tuesday of January, January 14.  The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. 
at the Science Building at Milligan College in Elizabethton.   Come up the 
entry road into the College, turn right just past the Gregory Center (on the 
right) into the parking lot.  The Science Building is straight ahead as you 
come into the parking lot.  The meeting will be in a room on the right just as 
you enter the Science Building.  The program presentation will be given by club 
vice-president Kathy Noblet on the Club field trip to North Carolina in 
October, 2013.   Agenda items will include planning of field trips for January. 
 Prior to the meeting Tuesday, Jan. 14, some members will meet at Bellacino's 
Italian Restaurant on South Roan St. (Food City Parking Lot) in Johnson City 
around 5:30 p.m. to eat and socialize before the meeting.  ALL are INVITED and 
WELCOME to the meeting and to Bellacino's.

One additional note:  I received word from Larry McDaniels that the Steele 
Creek Park Nature Center in Bristol is interested in obtaining a replacement 
tripod for their wildlife observation scope.  Being budget-restricted, they 
would like to obtain a sturdy used tripod.  If you are about to upgrade your 
tripod and would consider selling your old tripod to the Nature Center, please 
let Larry know--his phone number is 423-773-9234.
