My mother ? Peggy Stevens ? called me at work to tell me a Great Egret had landed on the fish pond located between my home and her home in Hampton, TN. The egret was subsequently seen by my dad, Amos Stevens, and David Thometz. I haven't seen the bird yet. I thought it was fairly unusual for a Great Egret to be in the higher elevations in winter. The pond, by the way, is frozen solid, but Simerly Creek offers fishing opportunities.
