Area Birders,
I was gone this past week to Delaware's Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge so you
had a rest from hearing about the birds in my yard.
However, this morning started out great with a GREAT BLUE HERON that flew
from the top of the maple tree in the front yard. That's a first.
With overcast skies and light rain the passerines were fewer with 27 species
recorded. The most interesting of those were a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, 2
COMMON RAVENS, 1 EASTERN PHOEBE, 3 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS, 1 SUMMER
TANAGER, 1 SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 2 WOOD THRUSHES, the first YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER of the season, and the first 20+ YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS of the
season.
Below is the complete list.
By the way Bombay Hook was a treat with hundreds of SNOW and CANADA GEESE,
500+ AMERICAN AVOCETS, BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS and a huge flock of varied
SANDPIPERS.

Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
