I took a hike from Carver's Gap out to Grassy Ridge looking for Snow Buntings and keeping an eye out for Golden Eagles along the ridge lines. By the time I got back to the car 3 hours later, all I had was a really nice hike and the company of 5 acrobatic Ravens, which was pretty cool. As I was driving out at about 3:30, I saw a large dark bird soaring above the tree line near Picnic Shelter #2, and I skidded to halt in the parking area. Golden Eagle. It went down in the tree line just north of the picnic shelter so hopefully it may still be around. Photo here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkirschke/ Peace. David Kirschke Johnson City, TN
