Members of the BBC will celebrate their Sixteenth Annual Christmas Party Saturday, June 5, at the home of Michele Sparks -- the same as last year. She lives in Apple Valley just off TN Rt. 394 near Bristol Motor Speedway. The party begins at 6 p.m. Details and directions will be published on the Bristol Birds Net in coming days. The event is open and free to all birders and guests without prior reservations. Children are welcome. Jeremy Stout presented an entertaining and educational talk with hands on activities regarding "Bird Bones." He is the Steele Creek Park Nature Center manager. Wallace Coffey and Michele Sparks announced that the BBC will be holding a meet and greet bird outing Saturday, 21 Nov, at 9-12 a.m. with the Middlebrook Homeowners Association. The event will be held at the association's lakeside pool house located at 162 Kingsbridge in the center of the neighborhood. Directions to the location will follow in another post to Bristol Birds Net. The association, which represents about 140 property owners at Middlebrook Lake, requested that BBC join with them to watch the waterfowl, talk about birds and birding in general and our club. They want to learn more about birding at the lake and the waterfowl that visit and winter there. Much of the contact was established by Sparks assisted by Coffey. The Middlebrook Homeowners Association will provide hot coffee and bagels as refreshments. BBC members are asked to bring their binoculars, scopes and bird books. There will be no program or formal presentation. The event will be at the pool house with field clothes being appropriate dress. We hope there will be a good turnout of BBC members to meet the neighbors and bird. Tom Hunter will lead the Bristol Bird Club First Fall Burke's Garden Golden Eagle field trip, Sun., 22 Nov. Birders leaving from Bristol will meet at the lower Piedmont Ave. parking lot of the Bristol Public Library at 7 a.m. or at Hardee's in Tazewell, VA about 8:15 . After a quick breakfast on your own at Hardee's the group will leave to go up into Burke's Garden by 9 a.m. The trip is to get an early-season survey of diurnal raptors in the garden before our annual February winter field trip which is scheduled to be led by Dave Worley. Everyone is invited to attend this Sunday's 22 Nov field trip. You may call Wallace Coffey at 423-360-2532 for questions or directions. The trip is free and open to the public. No reservations required. Families with children are welcome. The club was shown a beautiful earth-tone colored golf shirt with embodied chest log which has been recent purchased for members of the Buchanan County Bird Club. The BBC will plan to offer a similar shirt for warm season wear by early spring. Announcements of a January planning meeting date and location are in the making and details will follow soon. It will also include striking a calendar of field trips for 2010 and scheduling leaders for the trips. Attending the November meeting were (those marked with * turned out for dinner at the Mad Greek Restaurant prior to the meeting): Janice Martin, Fred Martin, Diana Worley, Victoria Hanson, Laverne Hunter*, Tom Hunter*, John Hay*, Jeremy Stout, Roy Knispel*, Lisa Tyler*, Michele Sparks*, Bill Grigsby*, Rick Knight*, Judy Roach*, Mary Erwin*, Wallace Coffey*, Carolyn Coffey*, Wilma Boy*, Nancy McPeak*, Mary Clark, Ruth Clark, Charles Powell, Lois Cox and Dave Worley.
