STEPHEN M. RUSSELL AWARD When the BBC leadership became bogged down, earlier this year, Dave Worley stepped up from his office of 1st. Vice President to assume the presidency and get everyone refocused. Not only did he have a clear vision but he knew how and when to do all the right things. He quickly knew that clear and certain leadership was needed from the President and that BBC needed inclusive management. He assumed the role of organizing and chairing a 15-member committee which quickly began work and steadily gained momentum until the 2012 joint VSO/TOS State Meeting planning is now ahead of schedule. That, alone, has drawn praise from state leaders. The Stephen M. Russell Award is named for a teenage member of the Bristol Bird Club who was a founding member when the club was chartered. He is now retired as a professional and prominent ornithologist from the University of Arizona. Our club is named in his honor. This award was also presented last year but is not necessarily awarded every year. Due to the lack of new faces during 2010, the BBC did not present a "Best New Birder Award" this year.
